The Salomon Advanced Skin S-Lab Hydration Pack just might be the coolest piece of gear I own!
I used handhelds, bumbags, belts but non are for me. So hydration pack was the only avenue left to explore or continue my long runs by ensuring I pass outside taps!
I began extensive researching, and soon discovered Salomon‘s latest hydration pack, the Advanced Skin S-Lab. Of all the products I compared, it was by far the most expensive. It retails for £125 and I was reluctant to make the purchase, but finally decided that if it enhanced my running experience, it would be worth it. I also found it for £80 from a Holland trail shop.
The pack arrived in 48 hours Ib a well packaged box.
I tried the vest on, and tinkered with the adjustments. I had ordered the MD/LG which was a snug fit. in the UK they only sell XS/S which unless you’re a borrower will be too small. (I am a Meduim in most kit) and with a little tightening of the two front straps which I found a little complicated, and didn’t notice much difference when adjusted. Once on, I trotted around the house admiring myself in every mirror. I hoped my wife would not ask how much it cost; She did.
My first impression was this thing is cool. It is too cool. When wearing it, you cannot help but look like a serious runner.
On my first real run with the vest, I was pleasantly surprised how secure it was while running. Even with 1.5 liters of water in the bladder, I hardly noticed it on my back. It did not move at all.
I would say that it doesn’t feel like the strongest of kit but you can’t have a feather lite pack and have it bullet proof! If you look after it it will be fine. Loads of pockets and comes with a safety blanket and whistle. The hydration bag itself is an amazing bit of design with a slider at one end so you can open up the bag and fold inside out to clean an dry.
Space wise you can fit in a rain coat, gloves, hat, phone, keys, cash and fuel such as gels etc but not much else. If you’re looking for a bag for a long run up to 50km this is it BUT may want to think of the next size up if you want to carry the kitchen sink. It suits my needs and couldn’t be happier.
It looks great, feels great, very functional and if money is not an issue this is the pack for you. BUT this is my first pack so cannot make any comparisons to cheaper models. But that said I cannot find a fault with this one.
